Qualifications:

  • Experience: 1-2 years of hands-on experience in analytics, preferably within the financial services or related field.
  • Industry Knowledge:
    • Familiarity with lending portfolio business drivers, particularly in credit card functions, to conduct pro forma financial analysis.
    • Understanding of credit risk, loan products, and consumer lending dynamics.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in coding applications such as SAS, SQL, and other analytical tools.
    • Strong skills in MS Office, especially Excel (advanced features like pivot tables, v-lookups, data visualization) and PowerPoint (for presentation creation).
    • Experience with predictive modeling tools, such as:
      • Decision Trees
      • Forecasting Techniques
      • Random Forests
    • Experience with Gradient Boosting (a plus).
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to convert business problems into analytical problems and apply data-driven solutions effectively.

Job Overview & Responsibilities:

HSBC is seeking an experienced professional for the Analyst – Data and Analytics role to drive analytical solutions within the lending business, particularly focusing on credit card functions. The role involves applying advanced analytical techniques to deliver actionable insights that improve business performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Problem Definition & Solution Design:

    • Convert business problems into analytical challenges, translating complex business scenarios into clear data-driven solutions.
    • Guide a small team of analysts, providing mentorship and support to arrive at solutions for multiple business units/regions.
  2. Business Value Identification:

    • Identify key business problems or new opportunities to enhance business performance, driving higher business value and impactful decision-making.
    • Diagnose and resolve moderate to complex analytical problems, applying the appropriate analytical approaches.
  3. End-to-End Project Management:

    • Lead end-to-end project management, from data collection, analysis, and modeling to solution delivery.
    • Hands-on delivery of analyses, ensuring the application of high-quality methods and adherence to timelines and quality standards.
  4. Analytical Insights & Strategy Recommendations:

    • Provide high-quality analysis and strategic recommendations to address business problems across the lending business, focusing on customer lifecycle management (acquisition, onboarding, balance growth, engagement, and attrition).
    • Leverage data-driven methods to generate actionable insights that optimize customer engagement and drive business growth while adhering to UK Consumer Duty and Fair Value principles.
  5. Customer Behavior & Growth Hypotheses:

    • Build and test hypotheses around customer behavior, including identifying opportunities for profitable growth and applying appropriate qualitative and quantitative research techniques to uncover causes and solutions.
  6. Data-Driven Decision Support:

    • Execute data-driven analytical approaches to recommend improvements in business decisions and processes, ensuring a tangible impact on customer engagement and overall business growth.
  7. Documentation & Stakeholder Communication:

    • Create clear and concise documentation that outlines data-driven insights, supported by sound analytics and logical reasoning.
    • Present findings to project stakeholders in a clear, structured manner, ensuring effective communication of analytical results.
  8. Cross-Functional Support:

    • Support cross-functional and regulatory analytics initiatives as per business demand, ensuring that the team aligns with the strategic goals of the business.
  9. Continuous Improvement & Innovation:

    • Drive self-initiated projects to enhance business performance, proactively identifying areas for improvement and developing new methodologies or frameworks.
