Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
  • Proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or Rust.

Other Qualifications:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check, which must be passed upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field with 1+ years of technical engineering experience in coding languages such as C, C++, or Rust.
  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field with proven experience in coding in C, C++, or Rust.
  • Equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Experience in improving service operations or engineering quality and fundamentals.
  • Experience in building system software that runs on Windows or Linux systems.
  • Experience with Hyper-V, VMWare, Docker, or other virtualization technologies.

Job Description & Responsibilities:

As a Software Engineer on our team, you will be responsible for developing systems focused on Quality and Fundamentals to create highly reliable products for customers that operate on millions of machines. You will collaborate across the organization to meet the demands of scale, elasticity, latency, and reliability required by our customers.

Your role will provide opportunities to learn new technologies and design the next version of services adapting to hardware evolution. You will have the freedom to ideate, create, and provide thought leadership, bringing innovation to our products and engineering practices, with tremendous opportunities to grow into a senior technical leader.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop systems and frameworks to enhance the quality and fundamentals of the systems, utilizing AI and advanced telemetry to generate insights and improve product quality.
  • Create and implement code for products, services, or features, reusing code where applicable.
  • Contribute to identifying dependencies, breaking down larger work items into smaller ones, and providing estimations.
  • Independently create clear plans for testing and ensuring the quality of solutions.
  • Leverage performance and profiling tools to identify hot spots and bottlenecks across hardware and software boundaries.
  • Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), monitoring system/product features for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, and ensuring system/product restoration for simple issues.
  • Manage release processes, ensuring that releases stick to schedules by identifying blockers, mitigating issues, and improving the release process.
  • Stay current with new developments to improve product availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance, driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Microsoft Azure Core Compute host team is focused on making Azure the world’s leading cloud platform, powering all customer workloads. This team is responsible for customer-facing, general-purpose compute offerings and management across virtual machines (VMs), containers, and bare metal. The team is also exploring forward-looking host technologies, including evolving the host OS, utilizing hardware offloads, and leveraging disaggregation.
